About the Bodhi Tree
The Bodhi tree is the tree under which Buddha is said to have attained true enlightenment.
The bodhi tree that was introduced to Japan was a tree of the Tilia family. During the reign of Emperor Rokujo, a monk from Kenninji Temple, Eisai, brought back its seeds and planted them in temple gardens, where they spread widely.
The lime tree produces pale yellow flowers from June to July.
